I’m having  hard time narrowing down the reasons why you would want to live in Tempe. In my opinion… it’s one of the best cities to live in around here… So, I decided to go to the source. I figured, they just might have already had to put it into words, so why not use theirs. And here it is, straight from the source.

Pluviophiles

Pluviophiles – (n) A lover of rain; Someone who finds joy and peace of mind during rainy days.

 

Shit, I’m a Pluviophile? Doesn’t that sound a lot like a different kind of  ’ophile’? I don’t care for the word. The meaning suites me though.  But I think that we should have a different word.

Lets break it down. I am, of course going to go straight to Google for my references. For 2 reasons… I am currently on my couch, and I’m entirely too comfortable to be getting up, just to realize that google is the only reference source I have. And, I truly believe, despite popular belief, Google is never wrong. So, here we go.

The meaning of Pluvio, as found on a German website. (because that seemed more fun than the first link.)  ”Raingauge using the weighing principle – with integral data logger or pulse output.”

Ok, that didn’t work out… back to a more reliable source… wikipedia. (or wiktionary)  ”pluvio (plural pluvioj, accusative singular pluvion, accusative plural pluviojn)”

Seriously? How did the German site make more sense? Someone is screwing around on the Wiki sites.

Ok, lets just assume that Pluvio means rain.

Ophile… kind of like Ophilia, the chick from Hamlet.  I’m gonna be honest, the Wikipedia was very long, and there’s a movie on. I don’t have the attention span to translate what I just read. We’ll assume that it had nothing to do with our topic.

Wiki sites missing in action, according to Dictionary.net, “ophile occurs in words which refer to someone who has a very strong liking for people or things of a particular kind”

Well, there you go. I believe that this is a VERY lose translation, but I can see how someone might believe that Pluviophile means, lover of rain.

For the record, I think the more you say “Pluviophile”, the less it sounds like a dirty word, and the more it sounds like a Warner Bros. Toon town. I guess I’m ok with it.

U.S Credit Rating May Affect Housing Market

I watched the news this morning and something grabbed my attention.  They said that the U.S Government's AAA Credit Rating may be lowered this year because of the financial mess that the country is in. I'm not going to pretend to know everything about what's going on, but this strikes me as a concern. This lower rating could send us back into a recession if negotiations don't go well in the next few weeks. That's fewer jobs, less money flowing through our cities, and less real estate investment for my clients.
What are your thoughts? Do you think this will force home interest rates back up? Or will they continue to go down like current mortgage rates have been doing? What is going to happen to the housing market without these low mortgage interest rates?
Better yet... What will become of the investment property that you recently purchased? I personally see this as the best time to purchase investment properties. If the economy takes another turn, we will likely see another wave of foreclosures and in turn... renters. Sure, we may get another chance to snag these real estate investments, we may even finally see a housing inventory increase, which would be great for my clients looking to buy a home. But, watch out sellers... I think your time may be coming to an end.
